The evolution of mobile network technologies like 4G and 5G has significantly increased the need for more external antenna elements on connected trains. This demand has led to the installation of longer and more complex antenna cables onboard, which in turn has extended installation times for our customers’ rail vehicles.
Moreover, these lengthy antenna cables result in signal attenuation, creating less-than-ideal working conditions for the radio modules. Recognizing these challenges, our engineers at Oxyfi have been driven to find a solution. This commitment has culminated in the development of our groundbreaking OxBox component.
The OxBox offers a range of benefits:
- No need for long antenna feeder cables: Saves 200-300 meters per vehicle
- Optimized Performance: The OxBox significantly enhances WWAN radio performance by minimizing signal attenuation with shorter antenna cables and utilizing top-performing antennas. This combination leads to substantially improved data transmission speed and reliability
- Reduced installation time: Installation time is reduced by 50% or more compared to conventional setups
- Simplified integration: The challenge of finding suitable space for “IT cabinets” inside the vehicle, especially near the external roof-top antennas, is eliminated
- Easier maintenance: Quick access via a hatch and minimal cabling simplify maintenance throughout the entire life cycle
- Eco-friendly and cost-effective: Reuse existing OxBox units by installing updated communication gateways and/or antennas as new mobile technologies emerge, or easily transfer the entire OxBox to another vehicle as needed
The OxBox is paired with our technology for aggregating multiple data connections, forming a comprehensive high-speed connectivity solution for railway vehicles.
