As the demand for stable, high-capacity connectivity on railway vehicles continues to grow, Oxyfi has taken the next step by integrating LEO satellite receivers into our concept for connected trains.
During the autumn of 2024, we engineered a robust enclosure for satellite receivers, mounted them on train rooftops, and conducted performance testing in live operations. The receivers are seamlessly integrated with dual 5G connections, where advanced aggregation technology maximizes bandwidth and ensures high reliability.
The result is a hybrid solution that proves particularly effective on railway routes where 4G/5G coverage is weak or inconsistent. By combining mobile networks with satellite connectivity, we achieve robust performance that meets the high demands of modern rail transport in terms of real-time data, safety, and passenger experience.
Further work remains to measure and optimize how satellite receivers can be best utilized in full operational environments.
“With satellite communication combined with OxBox, we are taking another step toward delivering the most robust connectivity solutions on the market. The combination of satellite and multiple 5G connections is a crucial step in ensuring reliable connectivity, even on the most challenging railway routes,” says Håkan Larsson, CEO of Oxyfi.
