Oxyfi has been entrusted with upgrading the onboard LAN infrastructure across 15 of Östgötatrafiken’s Coradia X61 rail vehicles. The upgrade includes 42 new network switches and nearly two kilometres of new network cabling. Some existing network components will be reused. Where applicable, all new components are certified in accordance with the EN 50155 and EN 45545 railway standards.
All equipment used in the solution is widely available on the commercial market and is non-proprietary. This supports the shared ambition of Oxyfi and Östgötatrafiken to limit the risk of vendor lock-in and ensure long-term freedom of choice.
A Robust Backbone for Onboard Digital Services
The new solution increases network capacity tenfold while improving reliability and robustness, creating better conditions for current and future digital services. This backbone network supports several important onboard applications, including passenger WiFi, automatic passenger counting, infotainment and ticket validation.
In 2025, Östgötatrafiken transitioned from a traditional onboard internet solution to Oxyfi’s open platform. The new order illustrates how targeted investments at key points in the vehicle lifecycle can keep the digital infrastructure robust and relevant for decades. Although this type of core infrastructure is rarely visible, its robustness is essential to the digital services onboard.
