Oxyfi has secured a new order for a complete connectivity solution for rail vehicles. The order covers five new trains, each of which will be equipped with two 5G connections, a receiver for LEO satellite communications, Wi-Fi access points in every carriage and a vehicle-wide LAN.
The delivery includes Oxyfi’s innovative OxBox 1.40 unit, featuring several technical improvements. The enclosure now meets the IPX6 and IPX9K ratings and is manufactured at a facility certified to EN 15085-2 — the standard for welding railway vehicles and components.
Three Aggregated Access Links for High Capacity
The three access links are aggregated into a single onboard internet connection. This combination provides both high redundancy and substantial total transmission capacity. In the area where the trains will operate, the average aggregated capacity is expected to reach 400–500 Mbit/s, with peak speeds approaching 1 000 Mbit/s. This will make the vehicles some of the best-connected trains in Europe.
A Scalable Platform with Recurring Revenue
The order is strategically important to Oxyfi, as it demonstrates the company’s ability to integrate mobile and satellite communications into a unified platform. The solution is scalable and can be adapted for additional vehicle types, fleets and future customer projects.
In addition to equipment and installation, the delivery includes ongoing operations, monitoring and technical support, as well as continuous improvements through over-the-air updates. This Managed Services model generates recurring revenue for Oxyfi.
Operational Stability Beyond Peak Speeds
High data speeds are only one part of a robust connectivity solution. Oxyfi believes the rail industry often places too much emphasis on peak speeds, when long-term operational stability is just as critical to performance. Achieving this requires tighter integration between the 5G modules and the onboard computer, meticulously selecting and maintaining the operating system, and ensuring continuous cybersecurity updates.
