Oxyfi Secures First Commercial Order for AI-based Passenger Counting and Flow Analytics

Oxyfi has secured the first commercial order for its new AI-based application for Automatic Passenger Counting (APC) and Passenger Flow Analytics (PFA), marking an important milestone for the company.

The application estimates the number of passengers onboard and provides an aggregated view of how they travel along a railway line. Public transport authorities and train operators gain insight not only into how many passengers are onboard, but also into how passenger flows are distributed between stations and across different sections of the route.

The result is a stronger, fact-based foundation for traffic planning, capacity optimisation, disruption management and investment decisions.

AI-Based Passenger Counting Without New Onboard Hardware

APC+PFA is entirely software-based and activated remotely through over-the-air updates. It runs on the existing onboard ICT infrastructure, eliminating the need to purchase, install or maintain additional hardware. Vehicles do not need to be taken out of service when the solution is introduced.

The order represents the first commercial validation of APC+PFA and demonstrates a key strength of Oxyfi’s platform: the ability to create and deploy entirely new digital applications and services using equipment already installed onboard.

For customers, this provides a faster and more cost-effective path to new functionality. For Oxyfi, it creates opportunities for multiple recurring revenue streams from the same physical installation, strengthening the long-term commercial potential of the company’s installed base.

A Scalable Digital Service with Privacy by Design

APC+PFA is delivered as an ongoing digital service comprising operations, monitoring, support, maintenance and continuous improvements.

The solution is built in accordance with Privacy by Design principles. Identifiers are processed exclusively onboard in volatile RAM, while only anonymised volume data is transmitted offboard for further analysis.

“This first commercial order is an important validation of both the application and our platform strategy. We can develop and deploy new services to existing installations without initiating new onboard hardware projects. This provides our customers with a faster and more cost-effective path to new functionality, while enabling Oxyfi to grow recurring service revenue from its installed base. This is precisely the type of scalability our platform was designed to deliver,” says Håkan Larsson, CEO of Oxyfi.
